Chinary Ung 70th Birthday Concert with The New York New Music Ensemble

In honor of Chinary Ung’s 70th birthday, The New York New Music Ensemble (NYNME) presents a program to be conducted by the distinguished composer. The concert will feature the New York premiere of Ung’s AURA (2005), a 45 minute work for two sopranos, 10 singing instrumentalists, and singing conductor (Ung). The Cambodian term “Chaw Pean Raingsei” describes the circular-shaped illumination around the head of the Buddha, or his aura, which radiates infinite compassion. Violist and singer Susan Ung will join her husband and NYNME. The concert will also include Ung’s Spiral I (1987) and special guest speaker Professor Chou Wen-chung.
